ByWater Solutions, an open source community contributor and America's forefront provider of Koha support, announced today that Mercyhurst University's Hammermill Library in Erie, PA is now live with their installation of the Koha open source ILS.
ByWater Solutions has completed the migration of the Hammermill Library's 300,000 plus bibliographic records and will be providing ongoing Koha Support for them. Their custom mobile-friendly OPAC can be viewed at http://hamlet.mercyhurst.edu/.
The licensing and technical support costs for proprietary ILSes became problematic for the library and triggered the need to look at open-source options. As the premier open-source system and with the reputation of its community as precedence, the decision to select Koha was simple. The staff of Mercyhurst conducted an extensive RFP process with competing ILS vendors and ultimately chose Bywater Solutions to host their Koha system.
Rebecca Crago Barwell, Systems and Teaching Librarian, stated:
"We felt comfortable knowing staff would have the support of migration specialists, systems engineers and former librarians from the ByWater staff."
Darci Jones, Director of University Libraries and Distance Learning, added:
"The Hammermill Library selected Koha because it felt strongly that it would be beneficial to the University as a whole to continue to be adaptive and innovative where tradition and technology meet on the university campus particularly in the library. This relationship with ByWater will help to generate a library system environment where commitment with library constituencies is forefront."
