At SirsiDynix, our goal is to empower libraries and the communities they serve. Most of the time we meet this goal by creating powerful library software and providing unparalleled services to our customers. Other times, we're given opportunities to support communities through charity.
SirsiDynix is joining hands with a number of other Utah businesses to support GIANT Steps Autism Preschool. In partnership with Wasatch Mental Health and Alpine School District, GIANT Steps aims to provide early education for preschool-aged children diagnosed with autism.
GIANT Steps has experienced tremendous growth since its creation in 1997 and will be able to serve 60 children and their families by the end of the year. With equipment, training, and other supplies provided by Friends of GIANT Steps (FOGS)—a non-profit organization that supports GIANT Steps—42% of the children who attend the GIANT Steps program can expect to be in a general education class by 2nd grade.
With five classrooms of twelve children, the program is able to provide floor time, kindermusik, and other Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) techniques for 60 children. However, there are over 100 children on the waiting list and limited class space to accommodate each child.
In an effort to raise funds for another classroom, FOGS is hosting a Charity Dinner and Auction on March 28th in Provo, Utah. We're honored to sponsor the event along with other local organizations to extend the benefits of GIANT Steps to the children who need it.
With our collective help, an additional classroom may be added to the GIANT Steps program. This single classroom will allow 12 more children to experience the services and education the program provides, bringing the total amount of children impacted by GIANT Steps to 72.
This program is certainly taking giant steps for children with autism, and we're thrilled to be part of the next step!
