Springer shifts journal Autoimmunity Highlights to open access

New York, 28 January 2015. Springer has assumed control of the journal Autoimmunity Highlights, which was previously owned by A. Menarini Diagnostics, an Italian company. In doing so Springer has also elected to make the journal an open access (OA) publication, which will allow for its published findings to be immediately available. However, readers should not expect any changes in the high quality of the content.

Autoimmunity Highlights presents material of interest to diverse professionals working on autoimmune diseases, and examines all aspects including diagnosis, treatment and management. The journal offers specific coverage of all autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, coeliac disease, thyroid disease and diabetes, among others. New challenges in the field receive special attention, among them genetics, molecular biology, genomics and proteomics, point-of-care testing, information technology and communication, and health economics.

"I am excited about the next chapter in the journal's history, and delighted to continue working with Springer," remarked Nicola Bizzaro, Editor-in-Chief for Autoimmunity Highlights. "Given Springer's robust OA portfolio, I am confident Springer can provide the best exposure for the contents of the journal."

Carlotta d'Imporzano, Executive Editor of Medicine Journals in Springer remarked, "We are happy to have the opportunity to grow this journal and to transition it to an open access model. The journal was always managed with scientific rigor and followed best practices in peer review, so it is not a difficult task to make Autoimmunity Highlights a part of Springer's more than 450 open access journals."
