November 10, 2014 -- Dublin, Ireland. Innovative announced today that the public library sector in the Republic of Ireland has selected the Sierra Library Services Platform. The group includes 30 separate Library Authorities representing over 300 library branches. The selection also includes the Encore Discovery Solution and the Content Pro digital asset management system. The libraries are migrating from Dynix Classic, Galaxy, Horizon, and Symphony systems. One library, Clare County Public Library, will migrate from Innovative's Millennium ILS. Collectively the libraries hold over 13 million items and issue over 19 million items each year.
"The introduction of a single library system for public libraries across the country is a ground-breaking initiative, the first of its kind in Europe that will provide significant benefits to the public," says Alan Kelly, T.D., Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government of Ireland. "All of the individual library collections from every local authority library across the country will be included in the new management system, offering the public access to the library collections, resources and digital content of all public libraries in one search."
Minister Kelly continued: "With the implementation of a single library system, the quality and strength of the library collections will be enhanced, more discerning purchasing will be enabled and resource-sharing between libraries will increase because of the ease with which users will be able to search the wide range of collections from other libraries."
"A single system for one nation is an ambitious vision and our selection has established Innovative as the best possible choice for the task," says VP of Global Marketing Gene Shimshock. "We have provided similar solutions for public library systems around the world and we expect that this agreement serves as a model for future nationwide technology initiatives using Sierra."
Shimshock continued: "Irish public libraries will achieve significant efficiencies of scale with Sierra in terms of economic resources, staff time, and resource sharing. In addition, Sierra's open architecture will enable these libraries to add new services and interact with external systems in an ever-evolving technology environment."
