St. Paul, Minn. – Sept. 23, 2014 – All libraries in Hennepin County will soon be equipped with 3M's latest in self-checkout technology, the 3M SelfCheck System and QuickConnect Interface. This newly updated system enhances library patrons' self-service checkout experience by offering more options and services, all with improved speed and efficiency.
There will be more than 80 new SelfCheck System kiosks installed at 41 Hennepin County Library locations over the next several months, to be completed by the end of 2014.
"This new technology should make checking out library items faster and simpler for our patrons," said Lois Langer Thompson, director, Hennepin County Library. "It should also allow more patrons to check out library items independently, which will give staff more time to support other programs and services in our 41 libraries."
This SelfCheck system also offers two unique features that are new to public libraries: Recommended Reads provides patrons with recommendations based on their checkout materials; and, to help the Library promote their different services and events, the Patron Promotions feature creates banner ad space.
"Our development team has made significant investments to advance our SelfCheck technology, and are confident that Hennepin County Library patrons will immediately appreciate the added services and improved functionality," said Matthew Bellamy, sales and marketing manager, 3M Library Systems. "The simplified interface and new features help optimize traffic and help the library meet the needs of their growing community."
