The European University Institute chooses Ex Libris Primo with its Central Index

Sasso Marconi (BO), Italy—July 30, 2014. Ex Libris Group, a world leader in the provision of library automation solutions, is pleased to announce the adoption of Primo and the Primo Central Index by the European University Institute (EUI) in Fiesole, Italy.

Seeking a solution that would offer users a unified search interface for the school's wealth of specialized resources, which include an official depository of European Union publications and documents, the Institute found that Primo and the Primo Central Index met the library's requirements. Along with the system's customization capabilities, the ease of a cloud-based solution made Primo the most suitable option for the EUI. The cloud deployment will spare the Institute's staff members the burden of maintenance while also enabling them to modify many aspects of the system.

"Our decision to adopt Primo followed a careful evaluation process which lasted 18 months," commented Tommaso Giordano, Director of EUI Library. "The extensive electronic collections indexed in Primo Central played a key role in our choice, together with the presence of a support structure in Europe. In addition, some of the features in the back office for managing Primo played an important role in our decision. We were interested in the system's customization possibilities, particularly the control over the blending of results from local and global collections."

Liliana Morotti, General Manager of Ex Libris Italy stated: "We are very pleased to count the prestigious European University Institute among the expanding Italian and European Primo communities. Their decision shows that our discovery and delivery strategy, particularly our commitment to content neutrality, reflects the strategic priorities of academic and research libraries."
