3 April 2014: Civica Library Solutions continues its rollout of Spydus 9, the latest version of its market-leading library software, with a successful upgrade to the Ministry of Education (MOE) Library Consortium.
The MOE upgrade was the most complex to date, with 350 primary and secondary schools, 17 junior colleges and 5 language centres simultaneously going live with no disruption to the school library functions.
Students and staff right across Singapore now have access to a system which integrates traditional physical library content with e-content, and provides users with a single unified search and browse ability across traditional resources, digital media, archives and cultural collections which can be easily filtered and refined.
The overall project comprised several phases including:
- Upgrade to Civica's Singapore data centre
- Client roll out in 372 libraries
- Design and commissioning of 3 different style OPACs based on school level
- Migration of over 500,000 patrons and 8.2 million items in 372 databases
- Training of over 380 Civica Library Staff and over 400 MOE Library Coordinators
- Product documentation for schools and online video tutorials for students
Marc Nolan, managing director (International) for Civica Library Solutions, said, "To complete this major upgrade to schedule and with no disruption to school library services required a highly collaborative effort between the MOE and Civica teams. This true partnership approach is how Civica manages the MOE full library outsourcing project and why it has been a long term success. The Spydus 9 upgrade will further increase the value of libraries in Singapore's education system."
