The Kuali Coeus team is very happy to announce the release of Kuali Coeus 5.0 on June 1st, 2012! This release was designated as the "functional equivalency" (FE) release with Coeus 4.5 thus completing the original scope of the Kuali Coeus project converging the functionality of Coeus and Kuali Coeus.
The KC 5.0 release includes:
- Numerous functional equivalency (FE) enhancements and bug fixes for previously released modules – Proposal Development, Budget Development, Grants.gov System-to-System submission, Proposal Hierarchy, Institutional Proposal, Awards, Institutional Review Board (IRB), and KFS Integration.
- Completion of QA and bug fixes to new modules introduced in the KC 3.2 internal release – Conflict of Interest (COI), Subawards, Negotiations, and Report Tracking.
- The newest additions to KC – Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) module and Kuali Rules Management System (KRMS) integration.
- Compatibility with Kuali Rice 2.1, the latest version of the Kuali middleware.
In the interest of full disclosure, it is important to understand that a few pieces of functionality are still required to meet functional equivalency with Coeus 4.5. These issues are outlined in the KC 5.0 release notes and were discussed at the last face-to-face Functional Council meeting. In addition, the IACUC module and KRMS integration are the newest code and may be susceptible to some bugs and further refinement as is customary for the initial release of a large, complicated module. A few other items were deemed as functionality deficient (or broken) in the current Coeus 4.5 release (end of month, for example) and will be addressed quickly in a future release. We will post a list of known remaining functional equivalency items on the KC web page. However, we felt it vitally important to allow existing Coeus schools to deploy a KC instance and begin their evaluation to help uncover any additional items that may have been inadvertently overlooked to achieve full functional equivalency. The KC project team will be working with partner schools over the next few weeks to address the remaining FE items and any critical bugs that arise.
We are very excited about this latest release of Kuali Coeus! It is the result of many years of hard work by a large number of staff from partner institutions and the Coeus consortium. Ultimately, we believe Kuali Coeus will be the best software available for research administration.
