February 29, 2012 -- Emeryville, CA. Innovative announced today that its ArticleReach Direct resource sharing service now offers integrated support for the interlibrary loan software Odyssey and the popular file-sharing app Dropbox. With these expanded offerings, supplementing the existing Ariel support, ArticleReach Direct provides even more flexibility in integrating with local workflows.
All three options offer centralized sending and receiving of articles and, when integrated with ArticleReach Direct, automatically update interlibrary loan requests as "filled" and patrons are then notified when requested articles are available on the Web.
Denise A. Forro, Head of InterLibrary Services, Michigan State University Libraries says: "ArticleReach Direct has become even easier for us with the additional use of the Odyssey software and Dropbox. We are able to use Odyssey to scan and send articles to ArticleReach Direct and the request is posted, updated upon receipt, and the patron is notified with no additional updating on our part!"
Farro continues: "Also, if we are able to provide articles in PDF format, we can easily place them in Dropxox and ArticleReach Direct posts the article, updates the system, and notifies the patron. An extra bonus of Dropbox is that we can use any scanning software that allows us to save the article as a multi-page TIF, JPEG, or PDF and the same actions will be taken. This is just a great development by Innovative for ArticleReach Direct consortia!"
About ArticleReach Direct
The ArticleReach Direct service enables academic libraries in a consortium to share electronic resources. Members of the consortium are able to offer their patrons access to the combined e-journal titles of all member libraries. Authorized users from each library may directly request electronic articles from the journals of other member libraries by entering citation information into a request form, by article-linking from a bibliographic record in a central union catalog, or by linking from an OpenURL-enabled database.
Ariel is a trademark of Infotrieve, Inc.; Odyssey is a trademark of Atlas Systems; Dropbox is a trademark of Dropbox, Inc.
