Press Release: VTLS, Inc. [January 6, 2011]

VTLS ends 2010 with 18 new Virtua and VITAL Customers and 34 new Chamo Customers

Blacksburg, VA -- VTLS Inc. experienced an upturn in activity in the second half of 2010 with 18 new Virtua and VITAL projects in North America, Europe and Asia. Among these were five additional customers implementing the Virtua SAAS, a fully hosted Software As A Service solution. In addition, four new customers were added to the growing number of VITAL customers using the Fedora-based, institutional repository solution.

Virtua, VTLS' flagship product, was chosen by 14 customers, the most notable being the Library of Congress, which selected Virtua for implementation in six of their overseas offices.

The Virtua SAAS option proved popular in North America and Europe. Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (Monterrey, Mexico), a former Virtua customer, chose Virtua SAAS, as did Delaware County Community College (Media, PA). In Europe, new Virtua SAAS customers include the Maritime Museum of Barcelona, Institut del Teatre (Theater School) of Barcelona, and the Royal Academy of Science and Arts of Barcelona.

Other new Virtua ILS projects include Palau de la Musica Catalana (Barcelona, Spain), Fryderyk Chopin Institute Library (Warsaw, Poland), HCL Infosystems Ltd. (India), Royal Malaysian Navy, Royal Thai Airforce, Vietnam National University in Hanoi, and Hanoi University of Science and Technology.

VITAL, VTLS' Fedora-based institutional repository solution, was selected by four customers: Tomsk State University in Russia and three Malaysian universities. In Malaysia, Taylor's University, Wawasan Open University, and the National Defense University of Malaysia all selected VITAL for managing their digital collections.

The social OPAC system from VTLS called Chamo showed great market acceptance, boasting 34 sales (see separate press release on Chamo). Encouraged by the response to Chamo, VTLS has developed a new product (called Chivas) that vastly expands the capabilities of Chamo to materials owned by others. Chivas was announced to European users in August 2009 during the European and Middle East Users' group meeting. A U.S. launch is planned for May 2011.

"We're very pleased with the increase in sales in the second half of 2010," commented Vinod Chachra, president and CEO of VTLS Inc. "We are particularly delighted with the response we are receiving for Virtua SAAS, Chamo and Chivas. The number of new sales and dramatic increase in interest in our products and services around the globe promise continued success into the future."
