Brisbane -- November 18, 2010. ACT Department of Education and Training (DET) have selected Softlink's Oliver – Australia's most successful and innovative Library Management System - for all schools across the Territory.
This is a part of the ACT Government's Smart Schools: Smart Students $20 million initiative to update the information and communication technology infrastructure in public schools.
With the use of the Oliver system, ACT DET schools will be able to integrate their library catalogues and access it from a web based system. This makes use of current Web 2.0 technology, following the schools' recent connection to a high speed gigabyte fibre network.
Mr Mark Huxley, Acting Director of Information Services from the ACT DET, believes this is a step forward for ACT's network of 84 public schools and colleges.
"Softlink's Oliver will help ACT DET schools reach the level of efficiency that we have not seen before," he said.
"Having our schools on the same library system will boost the communication and effectiveness of ACT DET school libraries. With Oliver, our libraries can now collaborate with each other on a scale not previously possible."
"Improving the way our school libraries are run and how they communicate with each other will help us in achieving our ultimate goal of educating and equipping our students to embrace the digital future."
The decision by the ACT DET to partner with Softlink was the result of Softlink's firm understanding of library management systems for school libraries and resource centres.
"We know Softlink have a fantastic track record in relation to innovation and future focus for school libraries globally," said Mr Huxley.
"We knew choosing Softlink as our library management system supplier for all ACT DET schools would see a partnership and a collaboration with a company that has the same goal, of bringing school libraries into the 21st Century."
CEO of Softlink International, Mr Kim Duffy, is pleased that Softlink was chosen to provide this revolutionary service to enhance the development of technology and efficiency in ACT DET schools.
"Oliver is the exact tool needed to facilitate and integrate the large amount of resources of the varied ACT DET school network. It will improve the efficiency of school systems and enhance the productivity of different learning environments," said Mr Duffy.
Softlink will work closely with the ACT DET to install and implement the system in its 84 schools and colleges, which is set to roll out over the next 12 months.
