Copenhagen, Denmark – October 2, 2006. Stockholm Public Library focuses on RFID. The Main Library and several subsidiaries implement complete RFID systems with smart anti-theft protection from AXIELL-Bibliotheca.
The library is the largest public one in Sweden and is a common and very popular meeting point for all residents. Known for its high quality standards in service, activities and collection, the library also aims at providing technically the best and user friendly system in using RFID in the future.
The media conversion in the libraries in Kulturhuset, Kungsholmen, Kista and Östermalm is supposed to take about two months. More than one million books and AV items have to be attached with RFID tags. In December 2006 the media circulation will finally work with RFID. Then, media check in and check out will take place by almost 100 percent self service. To make RFID standard practice the library wants to improve the item’s handling for staff and patrons.
Stockholm Public Library manages more than 2.1 million books and almost 200,000 AV media. All together, there are 44 City locations and several other specific libraries, e.g. for hospitals or at other general places of work or correctional care.
