Syracuse University (NY) Selects Encore

April 29, 2009 -- Emeryville, CA. Syracuse University (NY) has selected the Encore discovery services platform for cutting-edge access to library catalogs and information. The Syracuse University Library, a member of the prestigious Association of Research Libraries (ARL), will implement Encore with their Voyager ILS, provided by Ex Libris. In the coming months, Encore will be available across all Syracuse University libraries, which includes the H. Douglas Barclay Law Library, as well as the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry Library that also shares the Voyager ILS.

Says Library Project Manager Terriruth Carrier: "Students have adjusted to a new model of interacting with information in the form of social networking tools and Google. Encore gives them a similar experience and a quick way to exploit the benefits of the classic online catalog. Encore lets students and researchers type in whatever they are interested in and easily hone in for details with features such as facets and the Tag Cloud."

In selecting Encore, Syracuse University Library staff looked at over a dozen options for their library interface and then approved Innovative's product. Communications Director Pamela McLaughlin says: "We are very familiar with Innovative's solid reputation and the institutions that use its products, such as the ConnectNY Consortium."

Carrier agrees: "Innovative has a lot of knowledge from working with academic libraries. We took our peers' favorable feedback into account during our selection process and look forward to providing a more rewarding and effective library experience for all of our patrons."
