Emeryville, CA. Innovative announced today that London Public Library (Canada), Middle Country Public Library (NY), and Scottsdale Public Library (AZ) are live with Program Registration 3.0, the most recent web calendar and program management solution from Innovative Interfaces. Key features of 3.0 include adding announcements of holidays and other local information to the web calendar, as well as no-conflict room scheduling for staff.
London Public Library (Canada)
London Public Library staff uses Program Registration manage and publicize over 500 programs—from Books For Babies to Financial Management for Senior Citizens. In addition to the web calendar, Program Registration enables discovery of programs through a simple search of Encore or WebPAC Pro, which the Library is currently using. "The biggest benefit of Program Registration is raising awareness and marketing what we offer," says Eeva Stierwalt, Information Systems Specialist. "The public can discover any of our programs on the web calendar or when they search WebPAC Pro for books and other traditional offerings. Because Program Registration integrates with Millennium, the search-results for programs are always current, down to the minute."
Stierwalt continues: "The new announcement feature in 3.0 complements our program information because it allows us to advertise news about special holiday hours, system-wide exhibits that require no sign-up, and the launch of new library services and campaigns."
Middle Country Public Library (NY)
In the fall of 2008, Middle Country Public Library offered over 200 courses and approximately 400 sections to its patrons. "With Program Registration, you have instant publicity," says Joyce Bogin, Head of Computer and Technical Services. "The minute you add a program, users can see it in the web calendar. We can put a year's worth of programs on the calendar so patrons do not have to wait for the next print schedule. They can see farther ahead and get at-a-glance access from the web calendar view. Our community can plan far in advance and we get better 'PR' over a longer period."
In addition to instructional courses, the Library offers initiatives such as Library Vote and a crafts fair called Women's Expo. Says Bogin: "For programs such as Library Vote and Women's Expo, where sign-up is not required, the announcement feature is a great way of promoting them. With this new feature, Program Registration 3.0 acts as a broader calendar of what we are doing."
Scottsdale Public Library (AZ)
Scottsdale Public Library offers close to 300 concurrent programs on local history, library resources, author readings, and more. "We want our staff to market things besides books and so being able to locate programs in Encore is a great tool," says Shelley Grebles, Staff Development/Learning Technologies Coordinator. "If a person wants a book on word processing, staff can tell them about a computer class we have on the subject. The customer gets really excited by this. It is great to have book and event information show up as a coherent whole."
Grebles continues: "I am also impressed by the new announcement feature of the web calendar. In Program Registration 3.0 we can publish days when we are closed or publicize an event for which no registration is required. Announcements even look different to our users because they display in a different color than programs."
In Program Registration 3.0, the web-based room calendar includes no-conflict scheduling, so staff can always select an appropriate location for a session. "Our staff loves the new room-conflict feature so that we always put the right program in the right place at the right time," says Grebles. "It really helps if two staff members are updating the system at the same time."
Even More New Features in Program Registration 3.0
Additional features of Release 3.0 include automatic email reminders to registered patrons and instructors, a persistent link to "today's events" in the calendar, and display of program images in the web calendar, online sign-up, and confirmation pages, as well as in Encore.
