August 26, 2008 -- Emeryville, CA. Murdoch University will join BONUS+, an Australian resource-sharing consortium that provides access to over 3.5 million volumes through a central portal or member online catalogs. Murdoch University is the first member in Western Australia and can now share materials with universities 2,000 miles away in New South Wales and Victoria. Murdoch University joins the six current BONUS+ members: Deakin University; University of Ballarat; University of Melbourne; University of Newcastle; University of Technology, Sydney; and Victoria University. Officially launched in February 2008, BONUS+ is driven by Innovative's INN-Reach direct consortial borrowing system.
"By joining BONUS+, Murdoch University will be able to provide staff and our 13,000 students with an easy-to-use and familiar interface to a very significant number of new resources," says Margaret Jones, Director of University Library Services. "We expect that BONUS+ membership will strongly encourage our users to look outside our own resources because this wider collection is now readily available. We will also be providing convenient access to our collections for the members of BONUS+ across the country. We're excited to join our first targeted lending project with libraries beyond Western Australia."
At present over seventy percent of the titles in BONUS+ are unique to one library, extending the individual library collections and removing geographical barriers. The partnership uses the Australian government mail service to reach students and faculty quickly and at no cost to the users.
BONUS+ provides access to over 3.5 million library volumes between seven academic libraries across the Australian continent. Officially launched in February 2008, the participating libraries are Deakin University; Murdoch University; University of Ballarat; University of Melbourne; University of Newcastle; University of Technology, Sydney; and Victoria University. BONUS+ is driven by Innovative's INN-Reach direct consortial borrowing system. The BONUS+ service follows a successful pilot project, BONUS, the first unmediated requesting and direct consortial borrowing service in Australia. Another unique feature is that requesting is available to undergraduate students, who, while they can visit other local libraries, do not normally have access to the Interlibrary Loan services in academic libraries in Australia.
