January 20, 2003 – Geac proudly announces today the official release of Vubis Smart Release 2.1. Building on its already rich functionality, Vubis Smart now offers new and powerful capabilities for catalogue maintenance, Web OPAC searching and dynamic resource linking.
One of the highlights of the new release is the increased flexibility that is now available for all cataloguing activities. This includes user-defined profiles for matching and merging of records, Z39.50 access, record loading and record output. The flexibility of this "profiles concept" opens a world of possibilities and offers easy-to-adapt workflows. Libraries can fine-tune the system to suit their unique needs.
Vubis Smart’s Web OPAC, much acclaimed for its strong search capabilities and user-friendliness, is further extended with new possibilities. Most notably, with Release 2.1 comes the first version of Vlink, Geac’s implementation of the OpenURL standard. Vlink allows library patrons to dynamically link from bibliographic records in a local database to electronic resources on the web. It is a key component that further underlines Geac’s focus on the importance of powerful data enrichment. Through its unique design Vlink offers library-defined, dynamic and context-sensitive links to all Web-enabled resources, and this without any additional cataloguing effort. The product also comes with an easy to use maintenance tool and a solution for rights and access management.
Vubis Smart – a smart idea that keeps expanding your library’s possibilities!
