‘s-Hertogenbosch, August 10, 2001 – The Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven will be the next VubisSm@rt library. In sixty years the Van Abbemuseum has grown into one of the most prominent museums for modern art. Through the course of these years, the visionary acquisition policies of its often distinguished directors have given rise to an impressive collection which includes works by figures such as Picasso, Chagall, Kandinsky, El Lissitzky, Theo van Doesburg, Mondrian and Appel.

The library will move to VubisSm@rt in phases. Initially Vubis 4 Windows will be installed; later the library will migrate to VubisSm@rt.

The library of the Van Abbemuseum is known for having one of the finest collections in the Netherlands of literature on twentieth-century art. The library contains exhibition catalogues, books and journals. The total number of volumes is 100,000. There is also a large amount of documentation dealing with the art collection and an archive which covers the history and exhibition policy of the Van Abbemuseum from its foundation.

The library collection is growing as a result of purchases of newly published literature and even on occasion donations of private art-historical collections. The library also subscribes to national and international art journals and arranges exchanges with museums all over the world.

Het Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven wordt de volgende VubisSm@rt bibliotheek. Het Van Abbe Museum is in ruim 60 jaar uitgegroeid tot één van de meest vooraanstaande musea voor moderne kunst. De collectie bevat werken van o.a. Picasso, Chagall, Kandinsky, El Lissitzky, Theo van Doesburg, Mondriaan en Appel.

De bibliotheek zal gefaseerd overgaan naar VubisSm@rt. In eerste instantie wordt Vubis 4 Windows geïnstalleerd; in een later stadium gaat de bibliotheek over naar VubisSm@rt.

De bibliotheek van het Van Abbemuseum staat bekend als een van de beste verzamelingen literatuur op het gebied van de twintigste eeuwse kunst in Nederland. De bibliotheekcollectie is opgebouwd uit tentoonstellingscatalogi, boeken en tijdschriften. Het totaal aantal boekbanden bedraagt 100.000. Daarnaast is er een groot documentatiebestand over de kunstcollectie en een archief waaruit de geschiedenis en het tentoonstellingsbeleid van het Van Abbemuseum vanaf de oprichting is te reconstrueren.

De bibliotheekcollectie groeit door aankopen van nieuw gepubliceerde literatuur, soms zelfs door schenkingen van particuliere kunsthistorische verzamelingen maar ook vindt uitbreiding plaats door abonnementen op nationale en internationale kunsttijdschriften en het ruilverkeer met musea over de gehele wereld.
