Emeryville, CA—The South Ayrshire Library and Information Service, headquartered in Ayr, Scotland, has selected the Millennium integrated library system to provide a complete library-technology solution for their public and secondary school libraries.
"Part of our development plan is to offer a single library card for users of both the secondary school libraries and the public libraries," says Michelle Jefford, ICT Systems Librarian for Public Access and LMS Administration. "This will be a different model for us, so we wanted a solution that would work for both cataloging and presenting information on the web. Representatives from the school and public library service worked together, looking for a new system that would work for both types of libraries and their distinct customer groups. We also had the participation of ICT experts from the local Council."
Jefford continues: "In today's fast changing technological climate, users have ever increasing expectations. WebPAC Pro looks elegant on the screen and is very eye catching. We think it will appeal to different age groups and levels and be a fresh and exciting system for all our users. Also, the implementation of Pathfinder Pro will enable seamless linking to resources related to their searches, such as Amazon.com, Encyclopedia Britannica Online, and our local databases."
The Service also selected Community Reviews to allow users to review books in the WebPAC Pro environment to make the online catalog more interactive. The selection of two RSS products, Feed Builder and My Record Feeds, will allow users to receive updates from the library through their feed readers.
