Blacksburg, Virginia, U.S.A.—VTLS Inc., an integrated library automation software company, has recently promoted three staff members and created three new management positions. Jack Bazuzi has been promoted to the new post of vice president and director of international operations; John Espley, former director of customer services, has been named to the newly created slot of director of education and training; Murray Crowder has been promoted to director of customer services; Ari Palttala has been tapped for director of marketing; and Dimitri Krinos has been appointed to the newly created position of chief, science and technology.
Jack Bazuzi has been director of VTLS international operations since 1987. He is retaining that directorship and shouldering new duties as vice president, which include responsibility for corporate management.
Given the personnel cuts among hardware vendors, it is important for turnkey suppliers such as VTLS Inc. to provide additional technical support to users. To do this effectively, VTLS has created a new department dedicated solely to education and training. John Espley has been appointed to the newpost of director of education and training and is responsible for those functions internally and externally.
Murray Crowder, who has been associate director of customer services since 1992; has been named to succeed Espley as director of customer services.
Ari Palttala, a native of Finland, held the post of country manager of VTLS of Finland over the past 18 months. As director of marketing, he now oversees the marketing of VTLS software that runs on IBM and Hewlett-Packard computers and under the UNIXR operating system.
Dimitri Krinos is a special assistant to the president in his new role as chief, science and technology. His main function is to evaluate emerging technologies for possible application within the VTLS software systems.
