Press Release: EOS International [October 12, 2006]

The Vatican Libraries Select EOS.Web Enterprise for its Ecclesiastical Library Network in Italy

(Carlsbad, CA -- October 12, 2006) EOS International announces that the Vatican Libraries, Conferenza Episcopale Italiana (CEI), has selected EOS.Web Enterprise for the new network of ecclesiastic libraries participating in its CEI-Bib initiative. The CEI-Bib project goal is to collect, in one union catalog, an extraordinary historical and cultural heritage of the Italian Catholic Church. The CEI-Bib initiative was presented to church members on September 14, 2006, at the Pontificia Università Lateranense meeting held in Rome.

The project involves all the ecclesiastic libraries acting in Italy, who will contribute their derived and original records to the new union catalog. Moreover, there will be an active link to the Italian National Library System (Servizio Bibliotecario Nazionale (SBN)). This functionality has been achieved by Ifnet S.r.l., active in Italy for more than twenty years, and sole Italian agent of EOS International since its inception.

"The CEI-Bib initiative," said Don Stefano Russo, Director of the National Office for the Ecclesiastic Cultural Heritage at CEI, "represents the starting point of a new project, in conjunction with the others in progress, which are all oriented to the preservation and exploitation of the ecclesiastic cultural heritage."

"The implementation of the Italian version of EOS.Web at the Vatican Libraries is proof positive of EOS International's commitment to global expansion," states EOS CEO Tony Saadat.

"To Ifnet," underscores Gabriele Lunati, CEO of Ifnet S.r.l., "this project is of great interest and value; not only from the librarian point of view but, and above all, from the cultural one. The ecclesiastic libraries keep real treasures, often unknown on a national and international scale."
