INWOOD, WV, July 26, 2006 – The Library Corporation (TLC) has released BiblioFile, a generational upgrade to the company's ITS.forWindows cataloging program.
Over 1,400 libraries worldwide use TLC's cataloging software. TLC has engineered the program to support the full range of scripts and languages sought after by modern technical services librarians. BiblioFile makes inventive use of the user's Windows® Regional and Language Options settings to display Unicode characters without changing fonts -- a real time-saver.
"BiblioFile has so many great new features," TLC Cataloging Product Manager Doug Storer said. "Everyone is wowed when they see you typing Asian characters, or characters that use right-to-left scripts like Arabic or Hebrew. But my favorite new capability is the search and filter feature. In real-world cataloging, you don't always have a standard number, especially with different editions or formats. Catalogers can launch a broad search and then type other terms to find the best record. "
Libraries can use BiblioFile's USNP-aware Z39.50 client to access OCLC, RLIN, or TLC's own ITS.MARC service, a 29-million record copy cataloging resource known for its currency and cost-effectiveness. BiblioFile's new search dialog offers 37 access points, Boolean support, and fully configurable search and database settings.
Enhanced workflow features include:
- Multi-lingual cataloging, providing dynamic font substitution capabilities
- Result set filtering, in which users enter additional terms to narrow the result set. Catalogers can reconfigure columns on the fly to refine the display or compare groups of records.
- New help features, including advanced search capabilities within the Cataloger's Reference Shelf, Web links, and embedded video clips
- Browser component, allowing catalogers to visit Web Sites from within BiblioFile
- Full support of ISBN-13
The name BiblioFile is well known to catalogers. In 1985, TLC created BiblioFile Cataloging, the world's first commercial application of CD-ROM technology. The program became the most popular desktop cataloging tool in the history of library technical services. Like its predecessor, today's BiblioFile is ahead of its time, a progressive tool that empowers technical services professionals. The new BiblioFile continues the TLC tradition of offering libraries quality cataloging at significant cost savings.
