INWOOD, WV—June 21, 2006 – Phoenix Public Library will offer ground-breaking search and information access technology in a newly designed Web site featuring Endeca's patented Guided Navigation technique.
The new "super site" promises users the most successful online library experience with data-driven point-and-click browsing and contextual spotlighting of related content and services.
"Endeca gives us the ability to completely expose the richness of the MARC record, provide Guided Navigation searching, follow a Barnes and Noble approach for promoting catalog items and services, and facilitate true browsing," said Ross McLachlan, Phoenix Public Library Administrator for Technical Services.
"TLC is pleased to have partnered with Phoenix to deliver this first implementation of Endeca for public libraries", said Patricia Culkin, Vice President and Managing Director of TLC Denver.
The new site will use the look and feel of popular commercial Web sites to provide a familiar search experience for patrons. It will incorporate user-friendly BISAC subject headings (developed by the Book Industry Study Group) to facilitate browsing.
Mr. McLachlan also noted: "In the near future, the Library will capitalize on the Endeca ‘roll up' feature to aggregate similar works following the FRBR (functional requirements for bibliographic records) model, and fully integrate the OPAC, electronic resources, and Library services."
