Niagara Falls Public Library Selects Vubis Smart

Extensity announced today that the Niagara Falls Public Library, located in the City of Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, has selected Extensity's Vubis Smart library automation system.

"Vubis Smart will enable the Library to showcase its traditional and digital collections, provide access to a state-of-the-art museum database and offer patrons seamless connectivity to information resources anywhere," said Ellen Isaacson, North American General Manager, Extensity Libraries Division. "With comprehensive management tools for staff, and a cutting-edge Web OPAC interface for patrons, Vubis Smart will position Niagara Falls Public Library at the forefront of information services for years to come."

The Niagara Falls Public Library includes four libraries that serve approximately 40,000 registered patrons and circulate over 600,000 materials annually. The Library's online collection features a Newspaper Index, an Historic Image Collection, a Library Art Database and a Virtual Sports Wall of Fame, comprising over a quarter of a million records. In 2004, the American Library Association (A.L.A.) recognized the Library's "Historic Niagara Digital Collection" as an innovative web-based reference service. Extensity in conjunction with the Library and the City of Niagara Falls Museums will also design a museum database to showcase materials from the three city museums.

"The Niagara Falls Public Library is very excited to be moving to Extensity's next-generation information management system, Vubis Smart," said Jan Leak, Systems Administrator, Niagara Falls Public Library. "A longstanding working relationship with Extensity has given the library the experience and confidence to select Vubis Smart to meet the needs of the

library in the years ahead. This product will allow us to augment and expand electronic services provided to our patrons. Additional modules, such as the Kid's Catalogue, Syndetics and Vlink, will provide a diverse collection of value-added services for our patrons. Powerful administration modules will permit the library to monitor a variety of performance measures, providing management with relevant information in order to enhance the patron's library experience."

Vubis Smart is a comprehensive information management system that enables libraries, archives and museums to organize and present data from any source and in any format. The system incorporates convenient workflows and easy-to-use administrative tools. Staff can define multiple formats, databases, indexes, search methods and more. Distinctive rules and parameters may be defined to meet the requirements of individual branches and locations. Users can simultaneously search multiple databases, link to subscription resources and customize the Web OPAC for appearance, language and search results. Unique Web OPAC features include 'Fuzzy Logic', 'Associative Searching', Selective Dissemination of Information (SDI) and customized news feeds (RSS).
