Press Release: Webfeat [January 20, 2006]

WebFeat achieves record growth in 2005

Old Brookville, NY, January 20, 2006— WebFeat, the original federated search engine announced today that it had achieved record growth in 2005, more than doubling its 2005 revenues. WebFeat also announced that its client base had exceeded 3,000 academic, public, K-12, Global 1000, and government libraries and information centers. WebFeat projected that this growth rate would continue or increase well through 2006, with some 10,000 libraries and information centers projected to use WebFeat by fiscal year-end 2006. WebFeat President Todd Miller commented, "2005 was a spectacular year for WebFeat. I attribute our success to delivering a 100% compatible federated search solution with zero hassle."

The company achieved seven major milestones in 2005:

  • WebFeat has now been successfully implemented in over 3,000 public, academic, Global 1000 and government libraries and information centers
  • WebFeat now provides federated searching to over half of the largest 20 U.S. public libraries
  • WebFeat now provides federated searching to well over 1 out of every 10 Association of Research Libraries (ARL) institutions
  • WebFeat now provides federated searching to 8 statewide library systems
  • WebFeat revenues doubled in 2005 compared to the previous year
  • WebFeat more than doubled its employees in 2005
  • WebFeat was granted its first international patent ( Australia)

New WebFeat customers in 2005 included:

  • Major public libraries including Brooklyn Public Library; Columbus Metropolitan Library; New York Public Library; Omaha Public Library; Phoenix Public Library; San Diego Public Library; and Tacoma Public Library
  • Academic libraries at Princeton University; GALILEO, Georgia's Virtual Library, representing 2000 libraries including the University System of Georgia; the Illinois Library Computer Systems Organization (ILCSO) representing over 60 academic institutions including the University of Illinois; LOUIS: The Louisiana Library Network representing over 38 academic institutions including the Louisiana State Universities; Northern Arizona University; Northumbria University (UK); the University of Oklahoma; and Westminster College
  • The New York State Library and the State Library of Louisiana
  • Government libraries at the Federal Communications Commission, Federal Reserve Bank and the Institute for Defense Analysis

One of the fastest-growing areas of WebFeat's business in 2005 came from libraries replacing other vendors' federated search engines. Miller commented that this trend was expected to continue in 2006. "Many libraries are discovering the hard way that there is a heavy service burden associated with federated searching. WebFeat assumes the full burden of configuring, hosting, and maintaining these systems, saving them tremendous resources required with other solutions."

Miller concluded, "WebFeat is at the forefront of federated search innovation. We pride ourselves on partnering with our clients to push the envelope of what federated search systems can be. We anticipate even stronger results in the year ahead."
