Université François-Rabelais de Tours selects Innovative product suite

Emeryville, CA—Innovative announced today that Université François-Rabelais de Tours Information Services has selected a suite of Innovative products to support its multi-library campus system that includes five main university libraries and a number of special libraries. Library leadership decided that Millennium was the best choice in an information environment populated by a wide variety of materials, both print and electronic, several locations, and a wide variety of staff needs.

In all, Information Services makes available over 600,000 volumes and nearly 5,000 periodical titles, as well as a large number of electronic resources. The five main libraries of Information Services include Arts and Letters, Laws and Economics, Sciences and Pharmaceutical Science, Medicine, and a remote library in the City of Blois.

In addition, the campus hosts institutes and laboratories—each with their own libraries—including the Center for Higher Renaissance Studies (CESR), the Touraine Music Library, and European Institute of Food History. To further support these special collections and archives, the organization selected MetaData Builder for creating and editing XML EAD and Dublin Core metadata, and Millennium Media for digital object display in the online catalog.

"The choice of Millennium was doubly favorable," says Library Director Mrs. Corinne Touchelay. "It was a question of acquiring powerful tools to manage the multiplicity and the diversity of the information centers of the University and of offering the best possible workflows for personnel as well as library users. More still perhaps, we wanted a technology solution that ensures the efficient management of all the information environments we make available, including all the developments in electronic publishing." To this end, Information Services selected Innovative's market-leading Electronic Resource Management.

Mrs. Touchelay continues: "We were inspired by the richness of public service that Innovative will enable us to offer. Our organization has the desire to make Information Services support all the potential avenues of study and research at a French university, while having the capacity to integrate all available, contemporary technological developments. Our choice of Innovative plays a fundamental role from this point of view."

Information Services also selected an Innovative campus computing solution, External Patron Verification (LDAP), to provide easy authentication in an academic environment. This product provides students and faculty with the ability to log on to library services with the same password used for other campus network resources.
