Ex Libris and The Berkeley Electronic Press announce the integration of MetaLib and ResearchNow Full Access

Ex Libris and The Berkeley Electronic Press (bepress) are pleased to announce the integration of MetaLib and ResearchNow Full Access, bepress' new research database. MetaLib, Ex Libris' library portal and metasearch tool, can now search the bepress XML gateway and retrieve ResearchNow Full Access results. The ResearchNow Full Access database combines access to the complete roster of 26 peer-reviewed bepress journals, plus the thousands of working paper series, postprints, preprints and other content from institutional repositories hosted by bepress that have opted for inclusion. Metasearch engines such as MetaLib are a class of services that allow end users to find content in multiple services with a single search. The quick implementation of the bepress XML gateway was possible due to the fact that it was developed according to NISO MXG (metasearch XML Gateway) protocol.

""Bepress is pleased to have ResearchNow Full Access available via the XML gateway to MetaLib," Greg Tananbaum, Berkeley Electronic Press president, said, "We see the implementation of this standard as a definite win for everyone involved in scholarly communications. Faculty and students will now be able, via a single search, to conveniently retrieve high quality scholarship published in bepress journals and held in institutional repositories. Authors can look forward to increased readership thanks to MetaLib exposure and its inclusion along with other databases selected by the end user. The library community will be able to better leverage their software investment against multiple full text resources."

Chris Roberts, Product Manager for MetaLib KnowledgeBase at Ex Libris said, "The use of the NISO MXG protocol by bepress made for quick and simple communications between the products of our two companies and, technically, the integration went very smoothly. Ex Libris applauds the efforts that have gone into the development of the NISO MXG protocol and looks forward to many more such straight-forward integrations."
