DES PLAINES, ILLINOIS, September 22, 2005: Endeavor Information Systems, the leading provider of library management software, is pleased to announce the general release of Voyager 5.0, the latest version of its flagship integrated library management system.
Voyager 5.0 offers a wealth of new features, including many based on input from customers gathered through Endeavor's enhancement committee and its Acquisitions and Circulation Task Forces, both of which are standard Endeavor practices. These include expanded capabilities in the areas of patron privacy management, circulation services, serials processing and display, searching, and media scheduling integration with the Voyager OPAC, WebVoyŕge.
Many of the new features are designed specifically to support methods for protecting patron privacy, such as increased flexibility for managing any archived circulation history. Voyager 5.0 Circulation enhancements extend local circulation management options, enabling libraries to configure the system to better meet the needs of their unique patron groups. Other enhancements include charge/ discharge processing improvements such as more granular alerts to exceptions, which reduce errors during processing.
WebVoyŕge delivers new user-initiated media booking services integrated with Endeavor's Media Scheduling media management system that simplify equipment and resource booking and tracking. WebVoyŕge also incorporates new technology to provide extensive local configuration options for serials information displays, including recent issues as well as local choice over MARC holdings display.
Voyager 5.0 Acquisitions includes several new features that are a direct result of Endeavor's recognition of the continuing need to reduce processing time in order to better serve end users. For example, new complex serial predictions in Voyager 5 automate complicated serial patterns that in the past required extensive processing.
"This latest release of Voyager demonstrates our company's commitment to enhancing and expanding our flagship product," said Donna Hillcoat, Director of Library Management Systems for Endeavor. "With 5.0 we've built on the extensible workflows and local customizations that are already part of the Voyager ILS and have broadened the options for libraries to better tailor Voyager to their preferences. We've also included several enhancements suggested by customers and others that address patron privacy empowerment, a topic of continuing interest for most libraries today."
