Press Release: SIRSI Corporation [June 1, 2005]

Sirsi Secured Resources installed at Panhandle Public Library Cooperative System

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. June 1, 2005 Sirsi Corporation announced today that the Panhandle Public Library Cooperative System (PPLCS) in Mariana, Florida, selected Sirsi Secured Resources to help the library through a difficult transition. Sirsi Secured Resources is a peace-of-mind service to ensure that, in any type of emergency, library users and staff will have access to all electronic resources. Sirsi Secured Resources takes care of everything, from storing backup tapes to verifying backup routines. In the event of a system failure, Sirsi staff will restore the system quickly. An Emergency Application Service Provider (ASP) option is available, in the event of longer-term loss of hardware availability.

"We chose Sirsi Secured Resources for three reasons: the old system was often a target for hackers; we were upgrading to a new server; and we were moving to a new facility. Sirsi did a remarkable job of ensuring continuity for staff and patrons while protecting our valuable data," said PPLCS director Karen Southwell. Though not directly affected by the hurricanes that struck the Southeast last fall, PPLCS reports feeling a sense of security with Sirsi. "We received positive feedback from staff," continued Southwell. "It was so easy to have Sirsi running our system; everything stayed up, stayed on, and stayed safe. Sirsi took care of us and took care of our system."

Sirsi has received a number of inquiries regarding Sirsi Secured Resources as a backup or a permanent solution to loss due to weather, fire, or security breaches. "Sirsi's expertise in working with library data makes us the sensible choice for safeguarding it. Sirsi Secured Resources safeguards data in a separate and secure location; gets the system up quickly to serve users in the event of a downed system due to natural emergencies or power outage; saves time and effort of devising a disaster recovery plan; and offers an ASP option in case of long-term hardware unavailability," said Bill McClendon, Sirsi product manager of hosted services.

"Sirsi Secured Resources can be used on a permanent basis or temporarily to help a library through a difficult transition, like upgrading to a new server or moving to a new location," said McClendon. "We are delighted to help libraries continue to serve their patrons without interruption, regardless of what the cause of the interruption may be."
