DES PLAINES, ILLINOIS, Mar. 10, 2005: Endeavor Information Systems announced today The College of Law of England and Wales selected the Voyager integrated library management system. The largest provider of vocational legal training in England and Wales, The College of Law provides training for over 5,500 local and long-distance learning students each year with library locations in London, Birmingham, Chester, York and Guildford. The Libraries will install Voyager on a Windows 2000 server.
The five centres are currently using individual variations of the Heritage system, with holdings totaling around 50,000 volumes. The collections range from legal practitioner texts and law reports to legal databases, textbooks, newspapers, journals and general reference works. The Libraries also hold video collections of Legal Network Television (LNTV), broadcasts supporting training programmes across diverse subject areas. LNTV is the video training division of The College of Law, a forum for delivering top quality in-house training to law firms in England and Wales.
"We have been aware for some time that a review of the way we managed our library catalogues was needed. Two campus technology moves, the College's adoption of Blackboard™ as the College's Virtual Learning Environment software and a desire to standardize applications across the College, encouraged us to also make a move and to implement a new library system. We were impressed by the functionality of Voyager and the enhancement it could bring to our services. Voyager will also enable us to facilitate information access for our students, many of whom are combining their course with full-time employment or family care. In the future we hope to be able to provide much more in the way of electronic resources for both teaching staff and students which can be downloaded as needed at home or in the office as well as inside the library,” said Marianne Barber, Information Development Manager at The College of Law.
“The Libraries of The College of Law have serious and specific needs for information management. Endeavor's Voyager system has the capabilities to provide intuitive end-user resource discovery and intelligent library staff workflows,” said Roland Dietz, Endeavor President and CEO.
