DES PLAINES, ILLINOIS, Feb. 17, 2005: Endeavor Information Systems announced today the University of Liverpool Library, Liverpool, UK selected a suite of Endeavor digital library systems for federated search, linking and library integration with the campus learning management system. The University of Liverpool Library selected the ENCompass for Resource Access system for federated searching of electronic resources, the ENCompass Course Content Integrator for e-learning integration, and the LinkFinderPlus OpenURL-enabled link resolver for bridging the gap between citations and the online full-text of articles. The University Library supports the information needs of more than 14,600 students and 1,600 academic and research staff across several library locations.
The University Library is currently using an Innovative Millennium integrated library system and interacts with the University's Blackboard learning management system for the virtual learning environment.
Endeavor's digital systems demonstrated a superior advanced technology architecture and Endeavor's progressive vision for integration with virtual learning environments like Blackboard were key advantages for the University of Liverpool Libraries.
University Librarian Phil Sykes said, “We are confident that our choice of ENCompass for Resource Access and LinkFinderPlus will help us to make it easy and attractive for our users to discover, explore and exploit the quality information in our extensive portfolio of electronic resources, and that it will counter the danger to students of relying too much upon general internet search engines. We recognize that our students increasingly begin their searches from within ‘Vital,' our Blackboard VLE, and the ENCompass Course Content Integrator will make it easy for our academics to build electronic library resources into their online modules in just a few mouse clicks.”
“The University of Liverpool Library has positive forward-thinking goals to increase the library's role in the campus information network. The selection of Endeavor's digital systems by the University Library demonstrates non-Voyager libraries can look to Endeavor for the next-generation of library systems,” said Roland Dietz, Endeavor President and CEO.
