Universal College of Learning Libraries select Voyager Integrated Library System

DES PLAINES, ILLINOIS, Feb. 15, 2005: Endeavor Information Systems announced today the Universal College of Learning (UCOL) Libraries (library.ucol.ac.nz), Palmerston North, New Zealand selected the Voyager integrated library management system.

One of the major vocational and applied education providers in the lower North Island of New Zealand, UCOL supports libraries on three campuses, Palmerston North, Wanganui and Masterton, as well as branch libraries at additional locations in Levin and Aokautere. Previously using two library systems, Liberty and Contec C2, the Libraries will implement Voyager to support nearly 6,200 students and over 500 staff.

The Libraries support UCOL's tertiary education initiatives with 53,000 print titles and 780 serial subscriptions. Voyager met the Libraries' requirements for a sophisticated automation system that included advanced features like EDI capabilities. The Voyager architecture and foundation of the Oracle RDMS means the UCOL Libraries can integrate Voyager with local campus systems for optimal end-to-end service to students. The Libraries will implement Voyager on Sun Solaris hardware.

“UCOL Library selected Voyager as the system that best meets our needs in the current tertiary environment. As well as providing the necessary raft of library functions and the benefits that a shared system across UCOL libraries will bring to our students and staff, Voyager ensures the library is in a position to meet current and future needs of UCOL,” said Karyn Thomson, Associate Manager UCOL Library (Wanganui). “This includes the areas of effective access to a wide range of electronic resources and increasingly with our growing focus on flexible delivery initiatives through the use of e-Learning and the management of digital resources. We are excited and very pleased with the decision and also looking forward to being part of the growing user group in the New Zealand tertiary sector.”

“As libraries seek to serve larger and more diverse user networks, they seek interoperable and intuitive library management software like Voyager that can adapt to a variety of unique needs,” said Roland Dietz, Endeavor President and CEO. “Endeavor is proud to work with the UCOL Libraries to provide information resources to learners, supplementing the UCOL commitment to help students succeed.”
