DES PLAINES, ILLINOIS, Jan. 14, 2005: Endeavor Information Systems announced today the advanced capabilities coming soon to libraries with Voyager 5, the latest release of the company's Voyager integrated library management system. Voyager 5 is currently in beta testing.
Influenced by the input of Endeavor's customer-based task forces, Voyager 5 includes new features suggested by Endeavor's customers through the enhancement process and through Endeavor's Acquisitions and Circulation Task Forces. By collaborating with academic and research libraries, Endeavor is able to include the most accurate and up to date features needed in library management software.
In anticipation of the continued interest in the important matter of patron privacy, Voyager 5 delivers features designed to support a variety of methods employed to address this sensitive issue. Voyager libraries have long had the ability to determine locally whether any circulation history should be retained. Voyager 5 provides more flexibility for managing any archived circulation history. Developed with feedback from Endeavor's Circulation Task Force and Voyager libraries in the United Kingdom, the Voyager 5 Circulation enhancements extend local circulation management options and provide enhanced service opportunities.
Voyager 5 Acquisitions includes new features that are a direct result of Endeavor's recognition of the persistent need to reduce processing time in order to better serve end users. For example, new complex serial predictions in Voyager 5 automates complicated serial patterns that in the past required extensive processing.
The Voyager 5 OPAC, WebVoyáge, delivers new user-initiated media event booking services integrated with Endeavor's Media Scheduling media management system. Additionally, Voyager 5 incorporates new technology to provide extensive local configuration options for serials information displays, including recent issues as well as MARC holdings data for serials.

“Working with Endeavor's customers was key to developing a new release of Voyager that serves the varying needs of academic and research libraries,” said Shelley Hostetler, Voyager Product Manager. “No two libraries have identical policies for services, so Voyager continues to play an important role in providing libraries with a platform that supports their local policies. The Voyager ILS already featured extensible workflows and local customizations; with Voyager 5 Endeavor broadens the potential options for our libraries to really interpret Voyager to their preferences.”
