Three South Australia Universities select Endeavor Digital Systems

DES PLAINES, ILLINOIS, Dec. 14, 2004: Endeavor Information Systems announced today the University Librarians of the University of Adelaide, Flinders University and the University of South Australia, all located in Adelaide, South Australia, have selected the ENCompass for Resource Access system for providing access to electronic resources, and the LinkFinderPlus OpenURL-enabled link resolver.

Endeavor's solutions will provide opportunities for local customization, increased access to a diverse array of resources and local control over the implementation and ongoing use of the digital systems.

With ENCompass for Resource Access, the fifteen libraries of the three universities can provide federated search and retrieval services of the library's electronic resources and licensed databases at levels that best suit the needs of the library.

The University of South Australia selected the ENCompass for Resource Access- Enhanced Package, a federated search system option delivered with pre-configured Z39.50 connections to more than 450 popular databases, as well as the option to set up XML gateways to LexisNexis, Scirus and ScienceDirect and more than 50 HTTP Search Engine (HSE) connections to premiere content from the most popular providers.

University of Adelaide and Flinders University selected the ENCompass for Resource Access- Premium Package. Ideal for institutions seeking to integrate the widest array of databases possible, the ENCompass for Resource Access - Premium Package is a federated search system option delivered with pre-configured Z39.50 connections to more than 450 popular databases, available XML gateways to LexisNexis, Scirus and ScienceDirect, plus all of the HTTP Search Engine (HSE) connections developed for ENCompass - currently more than 500 in total.

All three institutions selected LinkFinderPlus as the OpenURL-enabled link resolver. LinkFinderPlus bridges the gap between citations and the online full-text of articles, providing maximum usage of the library's electronic journal subscriptions.

All of the libraries have employed Endeavor's Voyager integrated library management system since 2001. The three university libraries comprise a total of 15 libraries, 354 library staff, 4 million volumes of monographs and journals and a large and growing collection of electronic resources. The libraries, with a combined annual budget of more than $35 million (Australian), provide education and research resources and services for 69,000 staff and students.

“As one of Australia's oldest universities, we shall be pleased to provide our users with cutting-edge software support in their teaching and research activities. It will be a gourmet store within the information supermarket,” said Ray Choate, University Librarian at the University of Adelaide.

“We carefully evaluated all products currently on the market. The Endeavor products stood out with their customizable functionality and ease of use. Our students, in particular, will find ENCompass for Resource Access and LinkFinderPlus to be very accessible. In addition as a Voyager library, our experience with Endeavor has been positive and we welcome this opportunity to continue to work with this innovative company as we develop our digital library,” said Bill Cations, University Librarian at Flinders University.

“Libraries want flexibility, dependability and accessibility in federated search and open linking systems. Endeavor aims to fulfill all of these basic needs and create optimal experiences for the libraries who implement these systems as well as the end-users who discover resources with our technologies,” said Roland Dietz, Endeavor President and CEO. “We are very proud to partner with the University of South Australia, Flinders University and Adelaide University to achieve their digital library goals.”
