INWOOD, WV— Oct. 15, 2004 –The Library Corporation (TLC), a leading library automation provider, held its sixteenth annual CARL Users' Group Meeting this month in Denver at the historic Brown Palace Hotel.
The conference benefited library managers and front-line users of CARL.Solution, TLC's premier ILS for large libraries and consortia. They attended programs by fellow users, TLC staff, and vendor partners. The meeting included focus groups in which senior TLC management staff discussed the direction of library technology solutions.
A highlight of each meeting is the product showcase. This year, the showcase featured the components of TLC's next generation intelligent catalog: Endeca's Guided Navigation system and Medialab's Aquabrowser, presented by representatives of both companies. (Several CARL libraries will implement the products before the end of 2004.)
A key component of the meeting is prioritizing system enhancements, which members vote on module-by-module for TLC product managers. The meeting also introduced TLC's newest ILS, CARL.X, and showcased the features and functions CARL.Solution users benefit from.
Many TLC strategic partners attended, including EnvisionWare, Inc. (Gold Sponsor), Hewlett-Packard (Silver Sponsor), Unique Management (Breakfast Break Sponsor), 3M, Baker & Taylor, Brodart, BWI, Civic Technologies, Endeca, Jamex, Medialab Solutions, Overdrive, Sun Microsystems, and Tech Logic.
CARL.Solution users agree that the weeklong conference is an important venue for sharing experiences, discussing issues affecting their institutions, and planning for the future. For many libraries whose travel budgets have been severely cut, this is the one conference they choose to attend each year.
TLC is owned and operated by the same family that founded the company 30 years ago. The company's automation solutions include integrated automation systems built using the world's most advanced technologies, cataloging with access to millions of MARC records, acquisitions that incorporate all the necessary resources into one place, and a premier service and support team that sets the standard in the library profession.
