London School of Economics and Political Science joins Endeavor development partners for advisement on electronic resources management system

DES PLAINES, ILLINOIS July 27, 2004: Endeavor Information Systems announced today the Library of the London School of Economics and Political Science (the world-renowned British Library of Political and Economic Science), London, England, as an international development partner for Endeavor Meridian, a new library software system for the efficient, effective and economic management of electronic resources.

The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) joins the three previously announced Endeavor Meridian development partners, Columbia University Libraries, New York, NY; the University of Pittsburgh University Library System, Pittsburgh, PA; and the Princeton University Library, Princeton, NJ.

Librarians from LSE will work with Endeavor to contribute a European perspective on the day-to-day activities associated with electronic resource management, including workflows, licensing conventions, legal requirements and vendor provisions. This input will ensure Endeavor Meridian will have a scope to meet the needs of libraries in multiple countries. LSE representatives will also guide the continuing development of Endeavor Meridian as the system progresses from the current prototype to a fully developed system.

The input of the Endeavor Meridian development partners supplements Endeavor's collected research and library customer feedback regarding academic and research library needs for an electronic resource management system.

Jean Sykes, Librarian and Director of Information Services at LSE said, “Meridian is important to the future development of our electronic resource management system. This is a great opportunity to influence its functionality as well as the selection and use of international standards. It also enables us to share the lessons learnt from our extensive participation in JISC/EU projects. We are also pleased to be providing the European perspective which we hope will benefit other libraries in both the UK and Europe.”

“Endeavor's philosophy is to develop systems with the input and advisement of library professionals who are dealing with the changing workflows in the library,” said Sara Randall, Endeavor Director of Strategic Products. “Endeavor is very proud to be partnering with the London School of Economics and Political Science for an international perspective on our development of Endeavor Meridian. The value of the contributions of the LSE from a European perspective, as well as the participation of one of the world's largest subject-specific libraries is very valuable to the continuing development of Endeavor Meridian.”
