ORLANDO, Fla.—June 28, 2004— Sirsi Corporation, celebrating 25 years of serving the library community, announced today the upcoming general release of the 2004 version of the company's Unicorn Library Management System. Unicorn 2004 will include a number of new features and enhancements, chief among them a new option for support of the Unicode Standard. Unicorn 2004 will also include WorkFlows 2004, which was introduced into beta earlier this year with Circulation and Cataloging modules, and now with Serials Control and Acquisitions modules. The general release of Unicorn 2004 will come in the fall.
Along with other computing industry leaders, Sirsi's support of Unicode will enable its customers to better serve the multi-lingual needs of their institutions and users. Thanks to Unicode's standard encoding of characters, Sirsi customers using Unicorn and WorkFlows, as well as library users accessing Sirsi online public access catalogs, will be able to search, store, and retrieve all international character sets (roman and non-roman characters alike). "Unicode in Unicorn 2004 and WorkFlows 2004 is more than a tool for use by library staff members; it is representative of Sirsi's commitment to update and evolve our technologies and services to ensure that our customers have the latest and most reliable library technology available to better support their diverse communities," said Berit Nelson, vice president of product management.
"Continuing Sirsi's long tradition of employing trusted technology to help libraries become more productive, Unicorn 2004 will empower libraries to manage the wealth of resources and the complex operations required of today's libraries. We are very excited to introduce the next evolution of Sirsi's sophisticated Unicorn system. Our customers share their ideas and Sirsi continues to listen," said Nelson. "We will continue our commitment to seek input from our customers to deliver powerful and intuitive tools."
