Sirsi conference brings together global community

ST. LOUIS—April 18, 2004—Sirsi Corporation, celebrating 25 years of delivering technology “firsts” to the library community, announced today the opening of the second annual Sirsi SuperConference, an event that brings together nearly 900 Sirsi users and library executives from libraries and consortia of all types and sizes from around the globe.

"The Data Research Users' Group, Unicorn Users' Group International, and Sirsi are proud to host this amazing and energetic group of library professionals,” said Patrick Sommers, Sirsi chief executive officer. “I have no doubt that what will be shared, learned, and explored will benefit the institutions and communities served by the attendees of the SuperConference.”

Held at the new Renaissance Grand Hotel in St. Louis from Sunday, April 18, to Wednesday, April 21, the SuperConference is a two-part event. For hands-on users of Sirsi products, there are approximately 120 breakout sessions offered by representatives of the two sponsoring users' groups and Sirsi. More than 150 library directors, deans, and other executive-level managers from public, academic, and special libraries, as well as consortia, have also gathered for a two-day Executive Track to discuss issues facing today's libraries and the users and communities they serve.

Speakers at the SuperConference include Sirsi CEO Patrick Sommers and David Bollier, an independent writer and thought leader who speaks on the topic of “protecting the American Commons.” During the Executive Track, Sommers, Sirsi's new vice president of innovation Stephen Abram, Bollier, as well as guest presenters from the Gartner Group, Sun Microsystems, and 3M will challenge library community leaders to think in new, exciting ways about how technologies and techniques can be used to strengthen and expand the mission and relevance of libraries.

The SuperConference also features leading third-party products and services that complement Sirsi offerings.
