Press Release: Dynix [February 24, 2004]

Valley Library Consortium chooses Horizon

PROVO, Utah - February 24, 2004 - Dynix, the world's leading provider of automation technologies, solutions, and services for libraries, announced today that the Valley Library Consortium (Saginaw, MI), a Dynix ILS customer since 1990, has chosen to migrate to the Horizon Information Management System and plans to go live with Horizon in August 2004.

As federal funds become available to help Michigan integrate more of its local libraries into regional and statewide automation systems, Valley Library Consortium (VLC) hopes to add more libraries to its ranks, making sophisticated functionality and integration capabilities more important than ever. Horizon will provide the consortium with the means to manage its 2.1 million item records across 17 public, academic, special, and school libraries. In addition, VLC will be able to integrate more easily with statewide systems.

"We chose Horizon because it provided us the functionality we wanted and the reliability we needed," explained Executive Director Karl Steiner. "We evaluated several leading competitor offerings, and Dynix provided the best value. Plus, it has a strong market share and a reputation we trust. As we bring new libraries into our consortium and our circulation swells beyond our current 2.7 million items per year, we will need a library automation system with assured long-term viability."

Steiner concluded that Dynix' solid support record was also an important factor in choosing Horizon. "The product support we've received from Dynix has been very good, and we're confident that they will continue the trend of implementing the features we value most into Horizon."
