Huntsville, AL — February 16, 2004 — Sirsi Corporation, celebrating 25 years of delivering technology “firsts” to the library community, announced today the signing of Bemis Public Library of Littleton, Colorado, for the Sirsi.net ASP service. Now representing more than 120 libraries, Sirsi.net is a hosted solution for libraries of all sizes and types, through which libraries can connect an unlimited number of client PCs at their sites to a centrally located implementation of the Sirsi Unicorn® Library Management System maintained by Sirsi. “We are delighted to be moving to Sirsi,” said Sharon Medley, Bemis Public Library's head of technical services. “It was a decision made unanimously by the entire staff.” We are looking forward to going live in February on Sirsi.net, which has a proven track record of reliability.”
“We are elated with the 250% growth we have experienced since introducing Sirsi.net,” said Bill McClendon, Sirsi system services product manager. “Sirsi.net's success stems from our hosting software applications on Sirsi's own servers at our facilities. Sirsi.net yields response times and system performance equal to or even better than a locally hosted system. Sirsi.net maintains reliability and ‘uptime' at 99.9%, including planned maintenance services.” Sirsi.net currently serves academic, public, consortia, and special libraries in the United States, Venezuela, the United Kingdom, and Germany.
“A single, annual subscription fee for Sirsi.net also frees the library of initial capital expenditures involved in purchasing its own server, as well as the cost of the staff required for supporting the server, making it possible for the library to dedicate resources for other purposes,” said McClendon. “Library staff saves time as well, overseeing the library instead of the server.”
