LONDON-FEBRUARY 9, 2004-Sirsi Corporation, celebrating 25 years of delivering technology "firsts" to the library community, announced today that the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has selected the Sirsi Unicorn® Library Management System for its Library in Strasbourg, France. "Until now, we and the Council of Europe have been part of a shared Unicorn system; but the Court recently decided to have its own system, which can be customized to meet its specific needs," said Nora Binder, head librarian for the ECHR. "In selecting Sirsi for our own system, we were obviously concerned about maintaining compatibility with the Council of Europe's system. But at the same time, we knew and appreciated the Sirsi system, as well as the helpful and efficient Sirsi customer service team."

The Library of the Court serves primarily the research needs of judges and lawyers. As a leading library for human rights literature in general and the European Human Rights Convention in particular, it has acquired a global reputation among human rights specialists - students, authors, researchers, and law professionals who regularly use the resources of the library. The Library of the Court holds more than 25, 000 items in its database.

Unicorn will provide library staff access through the Sirsi WorkFlows, ® a graphical interface to cataloging, serials, and authority control modules of the Unicorn system. In addition, Sirsi SmartPORT will capture records from Z39.50 sources. Sirsi's iLink Online Scholar's Portal, an e-library solution providing access to the library's materials 24 hours a day, seven days per week, will deliver end-user access to the library's catalog via the Internet.
