Montréal, Canada - June 20, 2003 – BiblioMondo Inc., a leading provider of integrated solutions to the world's public, academic and special libraries, is pleased to announce the delivery of North America's first complete online bibliography for the National Library of Quebec (BNQ). The announcement marks the completion of the first stage of a multiyear, multi-million dollar project to integrate the collections of the Grand Bibliothèque and the BNQ within one comprehensive, digitally accessible public library.
“This launch achieves an important mandate for the BNQ,” said Claude Fournier, General Director of Conservation for the BNQ. “This bibliography will provide universal access to Quebec's rich historical, literary & scientific contributions. BiblioMondo's technology and expertise has been a key element in its realization.”
Now available through the BNQ Website www.bnquebec.ca, the electronic Bibliography of Quebec puts the province on a short list including Australia, New Zealand, France, Norway and Hungary to provide a comprehensive digital reference to the works of their writers, researchers and publishers.
“BiblioMondo is proud to be contributing to such an important initiative for the province of Quebec and its constituents,” said Ian Ferguson, President and CEO of BiblioMondo Inc. “As technology continues to play a pivotal role in improving access to information, BiblioMondo maintains a commitment to software innovation that bridges the gaps between information seekers and the intellectual and cultural assets available to them. We look forward to continued collaboration with the BNQ in setting the benchmark for implementation of large scale information access services such as these.”
BiblioMondo's PortFolio Powers the BNQ
BiblioMondo's world-renowned Integrated Library System, PortFolio, provides the BNQ a comprehensive solution to power both its traditional and digital library services. Following the ISO 2709 standard, the PortFolio system allows traditional MARC format bibliographic records to be converted directly to the more versatile XML format. This provides the BNQ maximum flexibility to publish bibliographic records directly to the web, and make them accessible through the BNQ's online, PortFolio-based Web application. With a large number of new books, journals, reviews, and multimedia arriving each month, BiblioMondo's PortFolio solution provides the BNQ the tools to easily manage and integrate the flood new acquisitions within both the electronic bibliography, and their traditional library system.
