San Diego — January 10, 2004 — Sirsi Corporation, celebrating 25 years of delivering technology "firsts" to the library community, announced today at the Midwinter Meeting of the American Library Association that partnerships with book vendors are increasing as Sirsi and vendors work together to develop more effective and faster means of delivering seamless integration of their services with Sirsi Unicorn® Library Management System for the benefit of mutual clients. In recent months, Sirsi has collaborated with Baker & Taylor, Blackwell's, Bowker, Brodart Co., BWI, YBP, and Ingram Library Services. These partnerships are improving libraries' workflow in acquisitions and cataloging using Sirsi's 9XX Loader to load bibliographic records and automatically create local order records. The Sirsi 9xx Loader has been developed to ensure compatibility with any material supplier that provides MARC-based order information for loading into the local system.
Other partnerships to improve libraries' workflow include access to Bowker's Books in Print® and Global Books in Print® databases through the Z39.50 protocol; and electronic data interchange (EDI) to speed acquisitions ordering and invoicing with Baker & Taylor, Blackwell's, Brodart Co., BWI, YBP, and Ingram Library Services. Additionally, the Sirsi Z-client is compatible with any z-server and Sirsi supports or is currently in test mode for the x12 standard with a number of booksellers and materials suppliers.
"Sirsi is the leader in library technology, and has been for 25 years," said Sirsi's Berit Nelson, vice president of product management. "We have worked to perfect uniform standards with book vendors and Unicorn to ensure seamless interoperability. We are delighted with the results and look forward to developing even more innovations for our mutual clients." Sirsi is continuing to cultivate and test book vendor interoperability with industry leaders. "Our commitment to industry standards and to our clients had led us to be the first vendor to provide many of today's mainstream technologies, like e-libraries, client/server architecture, and enriched content," said Nelson. "Today, we are working on tomorrow's 'firsts' for libraries. Our relationships with book vendors are just one more step in enabling libraries to serve their user communities better than ever before."
