Utah State University selects Innovative's Electronic Resource Management

Emeryville, CA — Innovative Interfaces, the leading provider of Web-powered, Java-based automated library systems, announced today that Utah State University, Logan, has selected the stand-alone version of its new Electronic Resource Management Module to support their digital collections. “We were particularly excited about being able to use Innovative's Electronic Resource Management product without the need to convert ILS systems,” states Betty Rozum, Assistant Director of Technical Services at Utah State. “The ability of Innovative's stand-alone module to interface with our existing ILS was a major selling point,” Rozum added.

Electronic Resource Management, the first and only product of its kind in the industry, is a tool for digital resource integration and license management. Jennifer Duncan, Electronic Resources Librarian at Utah State University states, “Using the Electronic Resource Management's data load and ILS interface will dramatically expand the use of our e-journal collections by our faculty and students, allowing access to over 12,000 individual titles.” Electronic Resource Management also effectively controls subscription and licensing information for licensed resources such as e-journals, Abstracting and Indexing (A&I) databases, and full-text databases. Duncan continued, “Using features such as the Tickler, which helps us track contract dates and decision points, allows us to much more effectively manage our licenses – always a big issue for libraries such as ours.”

In addition, Utah State has agreed to participate as a partner in the on-going development of the Electronic Resource Management module joining an impressive list of libraries already assembled. Electronic Resource Management is currently installed at the University of Washington, Washington State University, Ohio State University, Glasgow University, University of Western Australia, and Canada Institute for Scientific and Technical Information. “By joining the development program, we feel that we have a direct effect on the direction of the product,” Rozum added. Ted Fons, Innovative's Product Manager for Electronic Resource Management states, “We are excited that Utah State University has decided to work with us to bring electronic resource management functionality to their libraries. The University has a strong technical team in place, and we are excited that we will be able to develop a truly useful tool for their staff and users.”

Utah State University (www.usu.edu) opened its doors in 1888 under the name of the Agricultural College of Utah. It is the land-grant institution in that state. Today, USU welcomes nearly 22,000 students each year to its main campus in Logan and to time-enhanced learning centers throughout the state. Since 1989, nearly 4,500 students have received degrees through the University's distance-education component. There are two principal libraries on the campus in Logan, the Merrill Library and the new Cazier Science and Engineering Library. The libraries house over 1.4 million volumes; they contract for over 150 online databases.
