WA TAFE Libraries select Voyager, ENCompass

DES PLAINES, ILLINOIS, Aug. 21, 2003:Endeavor Information Systems announced today the Western Australia Department of Education and Training, Perth, WA, Australia selected Endeavor's systems on behalf of their Library and Information Services and the 35 libraries of the 10 Western Australia Technical and Further Education (TAFE) Colleges. The Libraries will employ the Voyager integrated library management system, the Voyager Interlibrary Loan system, the Voyager interface to self-check systems, the Media Scheduling materials booking system, and the ENCompass for Digital Collections system for managing and searching digital objects. Voyager replaces the Dynix and Horizon Sunrise library systems.

With over 443,000 items, the TAFE libraries serve more than 110,000 students and 4,000 staff. The Department of Education and Training is a Government of Western Australia agency established to promote employment, vocational education and training opportunities.

The TAFE libraries include:

  • Central West College of TAFE, Geraldton, WA
  • Challenger TAFE, Fremantle, WA
  • CY O'Connor College of TAFE, Northam, WA
  • Department of Education and Training, Perth, WA
  • Pilbara College of TAFE, Pilbara WA
  • Great Southern TAFE, Albany, WA
  • Kimberley College of TAFE, Broome, WA
  • Swan TAFE, Perth, WA
  • South West Regional College of TAFE, Bunbury, WA
  • West Coast College of TAFE, Perth, WA

TAFE WA was confident that Endeavor offered a solution that met and exceeded the functional and technical requirements to support this vision," said Wayne Collyer, Managing Director of Central West College of TAFE and Chair - Learning Resources Systems Project for TAFE WA. "We saw that Voyager and ENCompass would support extensive core library operations and functions whilst supporting the teaching and learning process of staff and students of TAFE WA."

Mr. Collyer mentioned benefits that include Endeavor's experience with large networks, cataloguing and metadata, flexibility with circulation parameters. Endeavor's systems will also provide interoperability with many other TAFE WA systems, such as enrollment and finance systems. "Colleges were particularly impressed that the client interface may be customised for each site to provide a wide range of resources to any student in the TAFE WA network," he said. "The methodology for implementing the solution was very sound with a realistic timeline, extensive evidence of data migration, comprehensive training and user documentation available in various formats to provide for flexible learning methodologies."
