Mid-York Library System chooses Sirsi

St. Louis — July 7, 2003 — Sirsi Corporation, the leader in new-name sales of technology for libraries around the world*, announced today that the Mid-York Library System headquartered in Utica, New York, has selected the Unicorn® Library Management System, iBistro e-Library, and Sirsi DataStream enriched content. "By selecting Unicorn, we were able to forward the mission of our library system by lowering the cost of library service through centralizing tasks, coordinating activities, and sharing resources with member libraries," said Mary Lou Caskey, Mid-York's director. "iBistro with DataStream will help promote the many services that Mid-York and its 43 member libraries provide – we expect to see an increase thanks to 24/7 availability and the enriched content to engage our users."

"This move will lead to increased use of our catalog, our resources, and better awareness about the programs and services we provide," said Caskey. The Mid-York Library System's greatest strength lies in resource sharing among its member libraries – all using the same integrated library system. "Choosing Sirsi was simple," said Caskey. "We want staff to be happy, satisfied, and confident with the services they provide. Unicorn improves our staff's effectiveness – and it clearly enhances the end-user's library experience."

"The result is that both large and small communities will have equal access to information through a single interface with iBistro – we are committed to making a contribution in our community with a rich, diverse collection that is easily accessible to everyone in Herkimer, Madison, and Oneida counties," said Linda Manfredo, Mid-York's systems administrator. "We expect to be a wider influence in the community by increasing access and use of local resources – and access to resources from around the world."

"Mid-York and Sirsi share a single purpose of meeting the needs of the communities and people served by this visionary consortium," said Andrew Morrice, vice president of sales & marketing and international operations. "We are honored to be selected to help support Mid-York's mission, and we look forward to providing not only the technology that Mid-York requires, but also a spirit of partnership in expanding the library experience for end-users."
