Virtua ILS live at Yeshiva University

Blacksburg, VA - Virtua ILS, recently live at Yeshiva University in New York City, features support of Hebrew and Yiddish searching capabilities displayed in the Chameleon iPortal. The University's collection includes over 301,553 bibliographic records with an extensive number of titles in Hebrew or Yiddish.

"Student response to the new "YULIS," the Virtua catalog at Yeshiva, has been quite positive, as is the feedback from colleagues at other institutions. Patrons appear to be impressed with the web interface and they are taking advantage of the new functions now available to them," says Pearl Berger, Dean of Libraries. In order to successfully migrate the entire collection from Classic VTLS to Virtua, the VTLS design team customized the software to handle the display of Hebrew correctly in VTLS' Chameleon iPortal. Powered by the Virtua software, Yeshiva's Chameleon iPortal is designed so that library's staff may determine not only which data elements the patron sees during a search, but also the language in which the data is displayed. Yeshiva's library staff also has the ability to customize the color, images and text for their iPortal at any time. Patrons may display information in both English and Hebrew characters, and they may search Hebrew and Yiddish titles in their original script

Founded in 1886, Yeshiva University is the oldest and most comprehensive educational institution under Jewish auspices in America and one of the nation's top 50 research universities, according to US News & World Report. The University's 17 undergraduate, graduate, and affiliated schools and divisions reflect the full range of knowledge in the arts, sciences, and professions, and the richness of Jewish culture and thought. Total on-campus enrollment is approximately 6,940, including some 2,800 undergraduate students. Yeshiva University enrollment also includes an additional 600 young men and women that study in Israel and of course will have access to the library's collection through the Chameleon iPortal.
