INWOOD, WV, May 7, 2003 -The Library Corporation (TLC) and the Denver Public Library (DPL) have partnered to operate and maintain DPL's CARL.Solution system.
TLC's CARL.Services division (located in Denver) and DPL will perform the responsibilities held by the Colorado Alliance of Research Libraries.
The new agreement involves preparing both the DPL staff and facility to handle additional responsibilities of operating the system. Training has been underway with DPL operations and applications staff to prepare them for their new duties. TLC and DPL have worked closely with the Colorado Alliance to ensure a smooth transition for library staff and users.
The Central Denver Public Library's main computer room will host all the CARL.Solution equipment that has been housed at the Colorado Alliance of Research Libraries.
Jo Haight Sarling, DPL Director of Information Technology, commented, "For DPL, the most exciting part of this partnership is the opportunity to work closely with TLC on the development of the library of the future. Denver customers have a high level of expectation of their two-time #1 library. Our goal for our partnership with TLC is to provide our customers with new and inventive services, rapidly delivering ground-breaking technology."
Denver Public Library circulates over 10 million items annually using CARL.Solution at its Central Library and 22 branch locations. As one of the first CARL system libraries (1983), DPL has a long history of working in partnership with CARL Corporation and TLC.
Created in response to popular demand from CARL.Solution libraries, the CARL.Services division offers system services to CARL.Solution libraries so they can focus their attention on their library's mission. In addition to Facilities Management Services, other services include hosted ASP solutions, Tandem System Management Services, SUN System Management Services, Network Administration, Network Services, CARL.Solution Services, and Project Management Services. Bibliomation Consortia in Connecticut is another CARL.Solution library that has taken advantage of the facilities management services.
