Sirsi SuperConference enlightens and unites

St. Louis-March 25, 2003-Sirsi Corporation, the leader in new-name sales of technology for libraries around the world*, announced that the first-ever Sirsi SuperConference brought together nearly 900 Sirsi users from libraries and consortia of all types and sizes from the United States and fifteen other nations around the globe. "Along with the Data Research Users' Group and the Unicorn Users' Group International, Sirsi was proud to host this diverse group of librarians, directors, and deans. Their energy and excitement were palpable, their wish to glean as much as possible from every available resource was remarkable, and their desire to take what was shared and shape it into service for their communities was admirable," said Sirsi CEO Patrick C. Sommers.

Held at the Hyatt Regency at St. Louis Union Station, the SuperConference was a two-part event. The four-day Users' Conference was a focused event for hands-on users of Sirsi products. "It has been a wonderful experience, I am really glad I was able to come," said Rose Simon, director of libraries for Salem College in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. "I enjoyed everything and learned a lot. I think it was a balanced combination of both users groups and an opportunity to share experiences."

More than 140 library directors, deans, and other executive-level managers from public, academic, and special libraries, as well as diverse consortia, came together for a two-day Executive Conference to discuss various issues facing today's libraries and the users they serve. "It was a great networking opportunity," said Anna K. Teller, associate director of the Texas Wesleyan University School of Law Library, "and I found many 'take-aways' from Executive Conference discussions and activities."

Speakers at the SuperConference included Sirsi CEO Patrick Sommers, who delivered the Sunday morning opening keynote address, Stephen Abram of Micromedia Proquest, who delivered the guest keynote address, and noted writer, journalist, and academician Joel Kotkin, who addressed the Executive Conference.

The SuperConference also featured a Technology Partners exhibition, featuring the following third-party companies: ebrary, 3M, LSSI, SF-Systems, Access Imagery, Unique Management Services, Inc., SerialsSolutions, Jamex, hp invent, Sun Microsystems, Comprise, Library Technologies, Inc., Marcive, Inc., and EnvisionWare.
