(American Library Association) The American Library Association and Public Library Association announced a public campaign in response to recent efforts to limit library access to e-books. In a press conference held at the Nashville Public Library during the 2019 Digital Book World conference, ALA debuted an online petition at eBooksForAll.org for members of the public to urge Macmillan Publishers CEO John Sargent to reverse the proposed embargo on e-books sold to libraries.

(Koios) Koios, the company that helps libraries show up first in Google results, made its first appearance at the Marketing Libraries Think Tank 2019 event to share knowledge about search engine marketing (SEM) and to propose a new national roundtable for library marketers.Ontario Library Association’s Marketing Think Tank took place in Toronto on Aug. 15 (http://bit.ly/OLA-ThinkTank19). Forward-thinking library staff gather annually at this event. Koios was a Think Tank sponsor, and its new National Sales Manager for Canada, Beatrice Pitocco, presented a session on SEM, detailing how nonprofit libraries can place free digital ads online via the Google Ad Grants. In addition, she proposed starting a national roundtable to enable Canadian librarians to share ideas and best practices in online marketing.

(ProQuest) Real Times Media announced that it has extended its agreement with ProQuest to grant exclusive worldwide rights for the education and library markets and non-exclusive worldwide rights for all other markets to reproduce, transmit and distribute the newspaper archives of the Chicago Defender, New Pittsburgh Courier and Atlanta Daily World. With the extension, RTM and ProQuest are expanding the partnership to include the media company's Michigan Chronicle archives through 2029. RTM receives royalties from licensed content.

(EnvisionWare) EnvisionWare announced that St. Joseph County Public Library has migrated to EnvisionWare’s RFID Software Suite. SJCPL migrated to EnvisionWare’s RFID software in all 10 locations. The Library also implemented EnvisionWare’s Library Document Station for self-service scanning, copying and faxing, as well as Copy Payment Manager for self-service copying payments and reporting.
