(Digital Science) Digital Science has launched a report focusing on falsifiability and reproducibility in scientific research. The report addresses three areas including appropriate documentation and sharing of research data, clear analysis and processes, and the sharing of code. Making Science Better: Reproducibility, Falsifiability and the Scientific Method looks at the current state of reproducibility in 2019, as well as the importance of falsifiability in the research process.The analysis comes from the Digital Science portfolio company, Ripeta, which aims to make better science easier by identifying and highlighting the important parts of research that should be transparently presented in a manuscript and other materials.
(American Library Association) The American Library Association and Public Library Association announced a public campaign in response to recent efforts to limit library access to e-books. In a press conference held at the Nashville Public Library during the 2019 Digital Book World conference, ALA debuted an online petition at eBooksForAll.org for members of the public to urge Macmillan Publishers CEO John Sargent to reverse the proposed embargo on e-books sold to libraries.
(Lyrasis) Michigan Publishing, a division of the University of Michigan Library, and LYRASIS, an innovative full-service technology and services nonprofit, announced the creation of a new partnership to advance the work of the American Council of Learned Societies Humanities E-Book collection.

A fifth-generation family member, Follett has been promoted to Executive Vice President of Follett School Solutions. (Digital Science) Digital Science, a leader in scholarly technology, is pleased to announce a collaboration with the International Society for Scientometrics and Informetrics (ISSI) that will give ISSI members enhanced access to Dimensions and Altmetric data for scientometric research.ISSI is an international association of scholars and professionals active in the interdisciplinary study science of science, science communication, and science policy. The ISSI community advances the boundaries of quantitative science studies, from theoretical, empirical, and practical perspectives.Starting on October 1 2019, ISSI members will formally be invited to apply for no-cost access to Altmetric and Dimensions web tools and APIs. A committee of ISSI members will provide expert assessment of researchers’ applications and guidance on using Altmetric and Dimensions in their research.

Follett Higher Education President Clay Wahl has been appointed COO of Follett Corporation, and Roe J. McFarlane has been named Wahl’s successor as President of Follett Higher Education. Wahl and McFarlane will report to Pat Connolly, Follett Corporation President and CEO.

(Springer) A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed today between MPDL Services, on behalf of Projekt DEAL, and Springer Nature sets the scene for the world’s most comprehensive open access (OA) agreement to be finalised later this year. Reaching such an understanding has been possible through acknowledgement of the common commitment of both parties to the principle of open science: Projekt DEAL’s vision and enablement of open access to German research on a large-scale and Springer Nature’s position as the largest OA publisher and their expertise as a pioneer of transformative deals. The agreement is expected to see well over 13,000 articles a year from German researchers published OA, meaning they will be freely and universally available for the world’s students, scholars and scientists to read, share, use and reuse from the moment of publication.

(ProQuest) Real Times Media announced that it has extended its agreement with ProQuest to grant exclusive worldwide rights for the education and library markets and non-exclusive worldwide rights for all other markets to reproduce, transmit and distribute the newspaper archives of the Chicago Defender, New Pittsburgh Courier and Atlanta Daily World. With the extension, RTM and ProQuest are expanding the partnership to include the media company's Michigan Chronicle archives through 2029. RTM receives royalties from licensed content.
